About us
AIDCIA is a newly founded non-profit association. We set out to connect research to practice and to keep the conversation about artificial intelligence anchored in evidence rather than enthusiasm.
The Association for Digital Innovation and Research in Artificial Intelligence (AIDCIA) is a Romanian private-law legal entity without patrimonial purpose. It is autonomous, independent, apolitical and non-governmental, constituted for an indefinite period.
We came together to create a setting where research, education and the practical application of digital technology can be done jointly — by researchers, companies, public institutions and civil society organisations — without any one of those perspectives cancelling out the others.
We promote, support and develop digital innovation, research and the responsible application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, for the benefit of the community, academia, public institutions, the private sector and civil society.
We want an environment where decisions about digital technology are made in an informed way: with an understanding of what a system can and cannot do, an assessment of its effects on people, and accountability for the consequences. It is a direction of work, not a promise of outcome.
Each of these has something the others lack. The association's role is to put them around the same table.
Brings method, rigour and the freedom to investigate without being required to deliver a commercial result.
Brings the real problems, the data, the cost constraints and the practical test of whether a solution works.
Bring scale, the regulatory frame and accountability to citizens as end users.
Brings the perspective of those affected by systems they had no part in building.
Set out in the statute and applied to every project, whoever the partner and whatever the funding source.
